How to Care for Viburnums

Viburnums are generally quite low-maintenance, but there are a few key steps you can take to ensure that your plants stay healthy and vibrant:
  • Plant your Viburnums in well-draining soil, and water newly planted viburnums regularly to keep the soil consistently moist until they establish a strong root system. Once established, they are generally drought-tolerant, but they still benefit from deep watering during dry spells.

  • Fertilize your Viburnums with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the early spring.

  • Prune your Viburnums in the late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. This will help to promote healthy growth and ensure that the plant maintains a pleasing shape.

  • Watch for any signs of pest or disease, and address any issues promptly to prevent the problem from spreading.

Viburnums are a beautiful and low-maintenance addition to any garden or landscape in Iowa. With their stunning blooms, hardiness, and adaptability, they are sure to provide year-round visual interest and enjoyment for years to come.
